Part-Time Teaching Assistant in the History of
Science
The Department of Philosophy at Durham
University is seeking to make an hourly paid, nine-month appointment to support teaching
in the History of Science. You will
have a PhD and some experience of teaching in the history of science. Knowledge of its connections to the history of
medicine, philosophy and/or religion are
desirable.
It is
anticipated that the successful
candidate will not usually have to spend more than 1 day a
week in Durham. The responsibilities
of the post will involve:
(1) 22 lectures for a year long undergraduate
History of Scientific Thought module taught primarily to first year
students.
(2) 7 seminars,
one-to-one tutorials and marking of essays for a one-term (January-February) MA module entitled
History of Science.
(3) Attendance of 2 final year examination boards.
The work will involve giving the lectures, running
the seminars and associated marking of seminar performance and
exams.
This a
fixed-term appointment is to cover some of Dr Matthew D Eddy's
teaching while he is on AHRC Research Leave and serving as Mellon Visiting
Professor at California Institute of Technology. Details of the
