medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Dear list members

I have always understood that the practise of "measuring" someone to
a saint while praying for that someone to be cured was a specifically
English custom (as described by Finucane in Miracles and Pilgrims).
I'm now curious as to whether anyone has ever encountered it in a
continental context ?
