The problem i've seen is that the user gets redirected to the IdP, which displays the login page. They immediately enter their credentials and click the submit button, and are straight away presented with tomcat's 408 timeout page. I've not seen this on IE or firefox of any version, I have however seen it on specific versions of Opera (9.01 I believe), and occasionally on Safari on the Mac. I've investigated the Safari on Mac issue a fair bit, since some of our Mac users have been complaining. On my own mac, which is just bog standard Tiger with the latest Safari, it works fine. On a student's Macbook, with exactly the same OS version, Safari version, and Safari settings, you immediately get the tomcat timeout. I haven't been able to figure out what's going on yet. On the Macs where it isn't working, I haven't been able to get it to work. On those where it is working, I haven't been able to reproduce the error, regardless of how much poking around with various Safari and system settings. I'm somewhat confounded... Our advice to those users affected thus far has had to be "install firefox". It works, but it's somewhat unsatisfactory... Anyone else?
