LLC Library Assistant (Full Time)



Salary - £16,481 - £17,407 per annum, full time, Location - Epsom, Ref - LLS ADM 7-158


The University College for the Creative Arts at Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham, Maidstone and Rochester was formed on 1 August 2005 through the uniting of two leading specialist art and design institutions: Kent Institute of Art and & Design and The Surrey Institute of Art & Design, University College. With around 6,500 students, the University College offers strengths in education and research in art, design, architecture, media and communication.

Based at the Epsom campus, we are looking for an enthusiastic LLC Library Assistant to support services to students and staff using the library facilities in the Library & Learning Centre. This new post has arisen in response to the growing student and research community at Epsom. 

Applicants should be educated to 'A' level standard or equivalent, possess excellent interpersonal skills including an ability to communicate directly with non-technical users. Experience of computer programs such as Windows 95/98 is essential as is the ability to work effectively on several tasks at the same time. 

Working as part of a team you will have initiative, flexibility, and demonstrate attention to detail and be prepared to learn new skills, particularly in the area of ICT (Information and Communications Technology). You will have a pleasant, efficient manner and be able to respond effectively under pressure. As well as experience of working in a face to face customer-orientated environment is essential; previous academic library experience would be an advantage but not essential, as training will be given. Experience of using automated library systems is essential; knowledge of Unicorn is desirable. 

The role combines a number of core duties common to all LLC Assistants with responsibilities associated with a particular area/s of specialist activity; individual responsibilities will vary according to both the location of the post within the Library and Learning Services Department and changing operational requirements. 

A First Aid qualification (or the willingness to be trained as a First Aider) would be desirable. 

Hours of work are 36.25 hours per week including one evening per week (5- 8pm).
