APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTING Open access - the view from a research funder Date: Tuesday 10 July 2007 Time: 6.30pm Venue: The Sekforde Arms, Sekforde Street, London EC1 Map: http://digbig.com/3pmf Speaker: Robert Kiley, Wellcome Library The web offers many new opportunities for communication. The 'open-access' movement, against much opposition, has taken advantage of these possibilities to provide free online copies of peer-reviewed papers and other research documents. As a leading research-funding body, the Wellcome Trust is committed to making the results of researchers' findings available to all. It is also working with other funding bodies and the British Library to develop UK PubMed Central - a free digital research archive. In this talk, Robert Kiley, Head of E-strategy at the Wellcome Library, will discuss the Trust's open-access policy and how publishers have reacted to it, as well as outlining future planned developments. CILIP in London evening meetings are free and open to all with a professional interest in the topic. Refreshments will be available afterwards. As space is limited, please let us know if you are coming. It would be helpful to tell us how you found out about the event. Contact Phillip Powell at [log in to unmask]
