Hi

Has any other Trust received the following communication from the
Newspaper Licensing Agency, stating that they will need to purchase a
licence? Our Communications Officer has received the following email
and has asked for advice as she does copy articles from newspapers on
occasion. Does your Trust have a licence or are they thinking of
purchasing one?

Thanks,

Suzanne Ford

The NLA is the UK newspaper industry's licensing body and licenses
organisations for the lawful reproduction of newspaper content for
internal purposes. I have outlined below examples of when a licence is
required within an organisation:

* The reproduction of any newspaper content which includes
photocopying, faxing and digital copying (scanning, emailing, hosting on
an intranet site) on a frequent or ad-hoc basis

* The reproduction of newspaper content that is received from a
Press Cuttings Agency (PCA) or a Public Relations (PR) Company. This
includes the following:

- Cuttings that are viewed via a PCA's website and printed or digitally
reproduced

         - Cuttings that are viewed via a PCA's website with 2+
registered users

         - Photocopying / digitally copying content that is sent by a PR
company

* If you are a PR company and reproduce newspaper content for your
clients (this includes forwarding cuttings from a PCA web portal)

Please would you read through the information and ascertain if there is
any copying of newspaper content. If copying takes place within an
organisation then a licence is a legal requirement under the Copyright,
Designs and Patents Act 1988.

Should you require further information then please do not hesitate to
contact me on the details below.

I look forward to your response on this matter.

Kind regards
