A Knowledge Transfer Partnership between the Institute of Engineering Surveying & Space Geodesy and Sonardyne International Ltd

Knowledge Transfer Partnership Associate

This post is based at the company's premises in Yately, Hampshire, but some time will be spent at the University of Nottingham. The post will offer the successful candidate an opportunity to work in a real world commercial environment, with the benefit of academic supervision, support and advice. The project will develop a low cost integrated underwater GPS/acoustic survey system for coastal and inland waters. A comprehensive and tailored training and development package will enable the individual to meet the professional demands of the project and their personal aspirations.

Sonardyne's Sea Trials Centre in Plymouth will be available for practical testing of the system, using the company's research vessels and underwater vehicle, and involvement in the archaeological survey of an ancient shipwreck is probable.

This post requires a good communicator with the determination to achieve results, who is highly self-motivated and has the skills to work well within a team. Some experience of GPS hardware and software is required, together with competent programming and data analysis skills. System design and engineering knowledge will be an advantage for this technically challenging project.

Candidates should be graduates with a surveying, scientific or engineering degree. A Master's qualification in a relevant field will be an advantage.

Salary will be within the range £18,000 - £21,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. An individual training budget is also available. This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of two years.
