West African Exploration Initiative Workshop The University of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and the Institut de Recherche pour le Developpement, France are organising a 2 day workshop on the 26th & 27th of November 2007 in Ouagadougou, which will highlight the outcomes of the first stage of the West African Exploration Initiative (see below) as well as other new research in the area, and will host a forum to help us to identify research themes for the second stage of the Initiative. We welcome oral and poster contributions from industry, goverment agencies and university researchers. Trade exhibitors are also welcome. The overall aim of West Africa Exploration Initiative is to enhance the exploration potential of the Leo-Man Shield through an integrated program of research and data gathering into its "anatomy'. The program is currently focused on the southern part of the West African Craton and hence includes: Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo. Key motivations for undertaking this initiative are to assist exploration companies in focusing their activities in areas of maximum prospectivity and to help local Geological Surveys in the region in their role of providing pre-competitive data and information. It is the first industry- Consortium supported collaborative research program ever undertaken in this region. L'Atelier
AMIRA pour l'Initiative d'Exploration Ouest Africaine L'Université de Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso et l'Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, France organisera un atelier de 2 jours le 26 et 27 novembre, 2007 à Ouagadougou. Cet atelier vont faire surtout le bilan de la 1ère étape de l'Initiative d'Exploration Ouest Africaine (voir ci-dessous) mais également celui des nouvelles recherches dans la zone. L'atelier a prévu un forum pour nous permettre d'identifier des thèmes de recherche pour la 2ème étape de l'Initiative. Nous attendons des communications orales ou en posters de la part de l'industrie, des agences gouvernementales et des chercheurs d'universités. Les expositions promotionnelles sont également attendues. L'objectif général de l'Initiative d'Exploration Ouest Africaine est d'accroître le potentiel en exploration de la Dorsale de Leo-Man à travers un programme intégré de recherche et de collection de données sur sa constitution. Le programme est actuellement axé sur la partie sud du Craton Ouest Africain et implique : Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinée, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Sénégal, Sierra Leone et Togo. Les principales motivations pour entreprendre cette initiative sont d'assister les compagnies d'exploration à focaliser leurs activités sur des zones à potentiel maximum d'exploration et d'aider les Services Géologiques Nationaux des pays dans leur rôle de fournir des données de qualité et d'information. C'est la première fois dans cette région qu'un programme de recherche d’envergure est initié avec le support d’un consortium d'industriels.
