The Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) is a newly founded interdisciplinary unit to foster patient oriented clinical research at the University Hospital Basel. Its primary objective is to support clinical researchers in the planning and realization of clinical trials and to improve quality of patient-oriented research. The CTU offers support for all types of clinical trials, including pharmacological, non-pharmacological and community-based interventions. Consultancy services and data analysis will be provided in close collaboration with the clinical epidemiology unit of the University Hospital Basel, the Basel Institute for Clinical Epidemiology (BICE). This position will be integrated into the biostatistics team of BICE. For our team we are seeking a

Biostatistician (100%)

Tasks:
-	Consulting of clinicians at the University Hospital Basel in study design and statistical analysis. 
-	Provide statistical analysis plans for clinical trials (mainly phase III and IV)
-	Participate in the writing of study protocols, the conduct of the study and in the publication of results
-	Give input to biostatistics and data management processes and participate in the establishment of quality standards. 
-	Limited teaching activities for CTU staff 

Job requirements:
-	You should have a Master or preferably Ph.D. degree in Statistics or Mathematical Sciences with pronounced Applied Statistics.
-	Professional experience in clinical research and very good skills of SAS and/ or Stata, S-Plus/R are crucial for this position. 
-	Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to explain complicated statistical issues to non-statistician. 
-	Very strong interest in consulting clinicians at our hospital and excellent analytical skills to run projects and analyses within the clinical epidemiology unit. 
-	Interest to engage for limited time periods in teaching activities for study personnel. 
-	Fluency in German and very good English skills 

Terms:
This position was opened July 09, 2007. Deadline for applications: August 30, 2007. Job interviews will be hold in September 2007. Contract will be for at least 2 years with the possibility of extension. Start: as soon as possible. Candidates should already hold a work permit for Switzerland or the EU.
