Dear Karen,
in addition to the other suggestions, your colleague might try the occupational therapy department of your local social services.

Hi all,=20

A colleague of mine has just found out that two of her children have a =
rather rare progressive condition called neurofibromatosis (type NF1) - =
would anyone be able to advise as to how she can find out if she is =
entitled to any help with transport to hospital for their treatment =
sessions (she does not drive)? Or any other help.=20

I've suggested that she check out the "Contact a Family" website, as they =
usually have advice/information, but I'm stumped as to where else she =
might try looking.

Who does one contact with regard to checking entitlement to appropriate =
benefits/allowances (attendance allowance or similar) - as although we are =
both aware that these things exist, neither of us has any idea of where to =
start looking or who to approach.=20

If anyone has any pointers or advice to offer, perhaps I could ask you to =
respond to me off-list, to save the rest of dis-forum from being inundated =
with this.=20

Thanks!

Depending on local resources/funding, a local affiliate of DIAL UK (Disabil=
ity Information and Advice Line) may be more useful - there's a Dunstable o=
rganisation listed on their website, and you can look for others - http://=
www.dialuk.info/findadial/index.asp

A Google search turns up an organisation called the Neurofibromatosis Assoc=
iation (UK) http://www.nfauk.org/ which may have useful info (although thei=
r website at a glance looks a bit 'medical').
