James Hogg: A Life, by Gillian Hughes

From ragged cowherd to famous author, James Hogg's life is one of
extraordinary transitions both socially and professionally. Gillian
Hughes's biography brings his fascinating trajectory to life, drawing
extensively on Hogg's correspondence and other documentary material, and
for the first time giving due weight to neglected aspects of his story.

Gillian Hughes is one of the General Editors of The Stirling/South
Carolina Research Edition of the Collected Works of James Hogg. She is
editor of Tales of the Wars of Montrose, Altrive Tales, The Spy,
Contributions to Annuals and Gift-Books (with Janette Currie), and Lay
Sermons. Gillian Hughes is also editor of The Collected Letters of James
Hogg, the third and final volume of which is currently in preparation.

James Hogg: A Life is available in hardback from Edinburgh University
Press at £25.00 (978 0 7486 1639 8). Visit www.eup.ed.ac.uk
