Research Associate (Biostatistics)

School of Community Based Medicine

Closing date: 18/07/2007
Reference: MHS/161/07

You will be working on a three year study in the Biostatistics
Group in collaboration with the School of Mathematics and the
Cardiovascular Science Research Group & Clinical Trial Unit
(MRI) and funded by the UK Medical Research Council, to
investigate aspects of the efficacy of propanolol and atenolol
in reducing mortality rates.

The project involves the development of statistical methods to
quantify the direct and indirect causal effects of therapies, the
application of methods to address the clinical and mechanistic
questions and the dissemination of results within the medical
research literature. Thus this is a exciting opportunity for a
researcher who wants to use their methodological skills to
address current issues in medical research.

Your responsibility will be to manage the database, to develop
methodology, to write software as necessary, to perform analyses,
and to communicate the results to statistical and non-statistical
audiences.

You should have an MSc or PhD in Statistics, or equivalent, and
experience of substantive data analysis. Knowledge of statistical
methods for modelling longitudinal data is desirable as is an
understanding of the problems of causal inference in medical
research.

Salary: £21,682 - £26,666 p.a.
