Serum Amyloid A

Can I pick the collective brain please.

We have had a request to measure Serum Amyloid A on a patient with a peripheral neuropathy (yes the CRP is normal). My understanding is that the amyloid that gets deposited in peripheral nerves is unrelated to the AL or AA protein fibrils and is in fact a mutant form transthyretin. So a normal Amyloid A would not exclude this condition and the patient would need a nerve biopsy in any case?.

Your wisdom on this would be much appreciated.
