DOCTORAL AND POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS AT THE CENTER FOR METROPOLITAN
STUDIES (CMS), BERLIN/GERMANY

The interdisciplinary "Transatlantic Graduate Research Program Berlin
New York: History and Culture of the Metropolis in the 20th Century,"
which is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG), calls for
applications for

12 doctoral fellowships (1.000 Euros/month)
2 post-doc fellowships (1.416 Euros/month)

for the period 2008-2010. The fellowships start on January 1, 2008 and
are granted for three years (doctoral fellowships) or two years
(post-docs) respectively.

The Graduate Research Program is a joint project of six universities
from Berlin (Technical University, Humboldt University, Free
University) and from New York (Columbia University, Fordham University,
New York University). It aims to stimulate innovative interdisciplinary
and comparative research on the metropolis in the 20th century. The
call addresses junior researchers from historical, social, political,
cultural, and spatial sciences whose research focuses on one of the
three central clusters of the Graduate Research Program:

Resources of the metropolis: culture science - economy
Metropolitan infrastructures
Governance

Projects with a historical perspective are preferred. The Transatlantic
Graduate Research Program is characterized through joint classes and
supervision by professors from both Berlin and New York. It is situated
at the Center for Metropolitan Studies (CMS) at the Technical
University Berlin. The fellows are asked to live in Berlin and actively
participate in the program. The curriculum comprehends
interdisciplinary seminars, research colloquia and workshops as well as
a stay abroad. Please check the CMS website
(http://www.metropolitanstudies.de <http://www.metropolitanstudies.de/>  ) for more detailed information.

To apply, researchers need a relevant research proposal, good knowledge
in both languages of the program (German, English) as well as an
excellent university degree which allows the participation in the
program at Ph.D. or postdoctoral level. Applications of young
researchers from outside Germany are especially welcome.

The application has to include the following documents:
01. a cover sheet (for download see the CMS website);
02. a curriculum vitae
03. photocopies of university certificates;
04. a project proposal (max. ten pages);
05. a one-page abstract;
06. a time-table
07. two letters of recommendation, to be sent to the CMS directly.

Please check our website for further information on the application
procedure. Send your applications in German or English, both as a hard
copy and per e-mail until to the spokesman of the Graduate Research
Program. Deadline is August 1, 2007.
