Thank you very much to all those who replied to my recent request
:
I’ve been asked by a specialist
nurse for a resource (video/dvd etc) about endoscopy (from a patient’s
point of view). This is to help the training of nurses. Is anyone
aware of anything suitable? I’d be most grateful.
For anyone else interested, here are the responses I got:
I asked one of Nurse Endoscopists about
this, and she doesn’t know of anything like this (indeed I was
quite shocked at the extent of her “we’ll tell them everything they
need to know” attitude… as a result I told her about www.dipex.org ,
and that seems to have some relevant material (though our Trust’s IT
constraints don’t let us watch any clips online)
MedlinePlus has a page of tutorials on
various endoscopic procedures - I haven't viewed them, but it might be worth
investigating: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/diagnosticimaging.html#cat64
The Wolfson Unit for
Endoscopy at St Marks Hospital, produces a dvd for nurse training in all
aspects of endoscopy.
It might be worth
contacting them to see if they have produced anything from a patient
perspective, or if not, they might be able to suggest where you might try
There might be
something suitable on http://www.gastrosource.com/
It’s mostly
pictures of the insides of guts, but I think I recall seeing something about
techniques there too.
Possibly something on dipex

You can see that two suggested the same thing. I also
looked at Intute, but did not find much. But worth a look anyway. http://www.intute.ac.uk/cgi-bin/search.pl?term1=endoscopy&limit=0&subject=healthandlifesciences
Best wishes – and have a good weekend.
