Opportunity developing NICE clinical guidelines

This exciting role is an integral part of the technical guideline development team of the National Collaborating Centre for Acute Care (NCC-AC), a multi-disciplinary health services research team based at the Royal College of Surgeons.  This is a great opportunity to work at a national level on clinical guidelines designed to improve standards of patient care.

We are funded by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) to produce evidence-based clinical guidelines for the NHS in England and Wales. Our work is highly regarded, so you will be contributing to our international reputation for producing top-quality material based on the best available evidence on clinical and cost effectiveness.

On the team, you will work alongside other information specialists, researcher associates (systematic reviewers), health economists, project managers and administrative support staff.  Your role as an information specialist will be to retrieve the most up-to-date clinical and economic research for the clinical guidelines. You will develop search strategies and carry out searches on a variety of bibliographic databases for the guideline areas under review. We work closely with a guideline development group composed of senior clinicians and your work will assist them and the NCC-AC team of reviewers in writing recommendations for clinical practice.

You will have postgraduate training in librarianship/information science. The work can be unpredictable at times, with tight schedules in place, so you must be confident in your ability to meet deadlines.

We are currently developing guidelines on the prevention of venous thromboembolism, the management of glaucoma and the management of benign prostatic hyperplasia. You will work across a number of guidelines so flexibility is essential.

Further details about the centre and our past and current guidelines can be found at:

Benefits include 25 days’ holiday plus 4 College privilege days, flexi-time, subsidised restaurant, in-house-gym, squash court and a final salary pension scheme.
