I'm looking at potentially moving round our reading room this summer, to put study desks nearer the windows and make the place a bit lighter. I don't want to end up with users walking in to be confronted by a "block" of book shelving, and I'm concerned that there should be an obvious "flow" around the room which encourages people to walk in. There is no budget for extra furniture so it's just a case of relocating what we've got. Has anyone done something like this before? I'd be keen to know if anyone has any good examples of theory or practice around the best layout for a library. I know that I have to have a 1m gap between rows of shelves, to allow for access under the DDC, but I don't know about any other legislative requirements.
