Dear All
 
I am looking for information about appropriate staffing numbers and models
for staffing, preferably in an NHS Library service covering multiple sites,
but I would take any info you have.  If you have a spare 10 minutes can you
answer the following questions?  All information will be treated
confidentially, however I will, of course, summarise for the LIS.
 
About your organisation
 
What size population does your organisation cover?
What type of care does your organisation provide (Acute, Primary, etc)
How many hospitals are in your organisation?
What number of Staff (Full time equivalent) are employed by your
organisation?
 
About your Library Service
 
How many libraries are in your organisation?
How many of them are staffed? For those that are staffed what are your
opening hours?
How many staff are in your library service, please can you state whether
they are f/t or p/t and if poss. their grade or position (a staffing chart
would be great).
What is your staffing model, i.e. is your service centralised or dispersed,
do staff have multiple roles, is there a divide between subject specialism
and library management or do staff do both.
What services do you provide (e.g. Literature searching, I.S. training, ILL
etc.)
 
And finally, if you have written a business case for staff, or have done an
exercise on the required staffing levels for a hospital library, or know of
any research on staffing models please can you let me know.
