Candidate Support Officers

Hello,

I have been following this thread with some interest, and having replied to some messages off-list I realise not everyone is aware of the Career Development Group's Candidate Support Officers who are available to help you with any queries relating to CILIPs Framework of Qualifications (Chartership, Certification, Revalidation) and who are also able to share with you hard copies of recent Chartership submissions which have recently passed.

Please see the notes below about the work we do, and please look for contact details for the  Candidate Support Officer in your area, at :

See below for more information...

Best wishes,

How can your CSO help you?

What is the CSO network?

The Candidate Support Officer (CSO) network is a voluntary and informal network organised by the Career Development Group to support all CILIP qualifications candidates. Each Division of the Career Development Group appoints an individual (or several, in larger Divisions) to be CSO within the group’s area.

The Career Development Group receives money from the CILIP to support the work of the CSO network.

Who can be an CSO?

There are three criteria that must be fulfilled to be able to be a CSO. The individual must be:
1.      A Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP)
2.      A member of the Career Development Group.
3.      A member of the committee of the local division of the Career Development Group.

What does your CSO do?

The role of the CSO is twofold. It is firstly to organise local qualifications events such as “Preparing for Certification/Chartership/Revalidation” courses, and secondly to be available to offer advice and reassurance to individuals.

Candidates may seek their assistance either because they are experiencing problems with the CILIP qualifications process or need to talk to someone who is impartial and who has been through the process themselves.

There are numerous reasons an individual may contact their CSO. The main reason why candidates contact CSOs are:
1.      Problems with individual or organisational training programmes.
2.      Problems associated with changing employer half way through the process.
3.      Problems understanding the regulations.
4.      Problems deciding what material to include in a PPDP (if appropriate).
5.      Problems relating to getting the relevant material needed for submission in a portfolio (if appropriate).
6.      Problems in motivation.
7.      Wanting an objective opinion of their submission.
8.      Wanting to see copies of successful submissions.

The main reason why candidates approach their CSO is to receive reassurance and a boost from somebody who is impartial with personal experience and knowledge of the process. The advice that the CSO can give is only personal. They will not know if a submission will be successful, but they can give advice and encouragement.

Whatever your query is on Certification, Chartership, or Revalidation, do not hesitate to contact your CSO. (If they cannot answer the question, they will pass you onto someone who can).
