A couple of comments following your deluge of replies;-)
They appeal to some people more than the hi tech. I had one client who went through several paperbacks in her final years using a pageturner. Other people have commented that browsing through a paper magazine is different process to internet browsing.
We seem to use them sporadically. When they’re returned they go to social services stores where they gather dust until needed again – when they may not be in working order.

Subject: Why provide page turners?
Hi,
Just pondering on why provide page turners?
Not providing:
-Expensive
-Sometimes unreliable
-Requires relatively accurate setting up
-Size limitations of the device and reading material
-Other technology is better? - e.g. computer book readers, Internet, Teletext
-Not been done in the past!
-Not essential, perhaps
-Charities may fund them
For providing:
-It is a specialist device for specialist services to provide, i.e. not a local therapists provision, but a specialist service, e.g. EC Service
-Specialist access is required, e.g. through switches or an EC System
-Improved Quality of Life significantly and demonstrably
I wonder where other people/services sat with this issue? Have I missed some issues?
Thanks,
Neil Gregory
