Society of Archivists Eastern Region Meeting,
Thursday 7th June 2007 - 'Using Collections as Assets'

At The History of Advertising Trust, 12 Raveningham Centre, Norwich by kind invitation of Barry Cox and Chloe Veale.

The History of Advertising Trust (HAT Archive) was started in 1974 by a small group of individuals who believed that the best of UK advertising should be preserved for posterity. In 1978 HAT was established as an educational research trust and a registered UK charity [no. 276194]. Its initial brief was to encourage and sponsor the study of all aspects of the growth and development of advertising. As an independent archive, HAT receives no government support beyond occasional small grants from government agencies and exemption from paying local authority rates (April 2003). HAT Archive's policy is to be as self-supporting as possible, but preserving material and making it available is costly and it operates its programmes successfully thanks to support of many grants and donations from private organisations and individuals and the dedicated help of volunteers.

For further information on how to get to the HAT archive please see < http://www.hatads.org.uk/hat/images/pdf/hat_pdf_8.pdf>. Car parking is available at the Raveningham Centre. The nearest Station is at Beccles. If you wish to use a taxi to take you out to the archive please note there is no taxi rank at Beccles, but Goldline Taxis can be pre-booked to meet trains and cost approximately £7.00 each way (Phone 01502 711611).
