Dear Colleagues,
Your Archives (<http://yourarchives.nationalarchives.gov.uk>) is a ground-breaking new resource which has recently been launched as part of The National Archives, UK, online services. It is a virtual community of records users where people can contribute their knowledge of archival sources held by The National Archives and by other archives throughout the UK.
You are invited to contribute to Your Archives by adding information to that available in The National Archives’ Catalogue, Research Guides, DocumentsOnline and the National Register of Archives. The Catalogue now has a link on each page to Your Archives encouraging users to find out more or to contribute their knowledge about a particular record.
Authorship in the traditional sense is being challenged by the development of resources such as Your Archives. These new methods of creating and utilising information are a reflection of the already apparent ‘democratisation’ of history.
