Clinical Trials Statistician
Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre

The Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre (CTC) is part of the
Cancer Institute at University College London. The CTC conducts multi-
centre national and international clinical phase II and III trials in a
variety of cancers (lung, colorectal, gynaecological, head and neck,
gastrointestinal and lymphoma). Most evaluate new treatments for cancer
while others examine new methods of screening. The CTC is one of the nine
cancer trials units in the UK accredited by the National Cancer Research
Institute. Most trials are funded by Cancer Research UK, with some funding
from the pharmaceutical industry. There is currently about 60 staff of
which 6 will be statisticians (including this post).

The purpose of this post is to take the statistical lead on several trials
that are either planned or ongoing. The person will also contribute to the
design of new trials, work closely with clinical investigators and senior
trial co-ordinators when applying for grant funding, have responsibility
for the statistical analyses, and write reports and papers for publication.
He/she is also expected to oversee a team of trial co-ordinators and data
managers who are involved in the day-to-day management of trials, and will
therefore have an important role in the coordination and management of
trials in the CTC. The post-holder will be part of the trial centre
management team and will contribute to postgraduate teaching within UCL.
He/she may be eligible to apply for an Honorary Lectureship in the
Department of Oncology.

We are looking for a post-graduate (M.Sc. or above) in Medical Statistics
or related subject with at least 5 years experience of working on clinical
trials, preferably cancer trials. Knowledge of statistical methods of
design and analysis, one or more statistical analyses packages (eg. STATA,
SAS) and practical experience of how trials are conducted (eg Good Clinical
Practice) are essential. Some previous management experience is expected. A
publication track record and some teaching experience would be
advantageous.
