Sibeal Speaks:

A Postgrad Conference on New Directions in Feminist, Sexuality and Gender Research

University of Limerick, 6 October 2007

The Sibeal Speaks Conference will be hosted by Women’s Studies at the University of Limerick on Saturday 6 October 2007. This conference will focus on the challenges facing Irish postgraduate researchers in feminism, sexuality, gender and women’s studies. The conference theme acknowledges the need to create new, more inclusive spaces in feminist and gender research that will respond to the challenges posed by issues such as globalisation, postmodernism, migration and social change, transgender and sexual politics.

Sibeal Speaks will offer postgraduate students an opportunity to build on previous research and explore future directions in contemporary feminist, sexuality, gender and women’s studies, both within individual disciplines and in terms of the debate surrounding their place within the academy.

We welcome contributions from postgraduate students in gender and women’s studies working in literature, history, social sciences, education, science, and visual arts, illustrating each student’s particular research concerns. We hope this conference will facilitate collaboration and exchange between students from different universities, which is central to the Sibeal network.

Sibeal Speaks will also offer sessions and workshops that focus on the practical aspects of research, covering issues such as publishing, PhD survival skills and combining activism with academic work. Suggestions for these panels are welcome.

The submission date for abstracts and proposals is Monday 25 June 2007. Abstracts of approximately 250-300 words should be sent to [log in to unmask] Proposals are welcome for papers, panels and posters. Further information on submissions is available on request.
