Dear All

First of all sorry about the VRVS failure towards the end of the UKI meeting this morning which I believe affected everyone in the end. Hopefully the agenda was sufficiently verbose that you could understand the remaining points that were to be made on SL4 and AOB. For those who did not attend the minutes should be available shortly on the agenda page (thanks this month to Andrew Elwell): http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=16755.

One of the topics discussed was the rapid updates and lack of testing before they reached production sites. You may therefore be interested in the proposal below which outlines a new middleware release process timeline. Feel free to air your views on whether this goes far enough!

Thanks,

Jeremy

Subject: Changes to middleware release process timelines

Hi all

We are implementing a change the middleware release process timelines.  We will now move updates to the PPS and the production service once every 2 weeks (rather than every week as is the case at the moment).

In brief:

Of course, this doesn’t exclude patches and new services being fast-tracked through when they are urgent.

A slide showing the new release schedule can be found here:

http://egee-docs.web.cern.ch/egee-docs/pre_production_service/Processes/Release%20process/PPS-release-schedule-v2.pdf

Let me know if you have any serious problems with this change.

Best regards,

          Nick
