This isn't quite on topic, but I thought this list a likely place to find the answer to a query I've been given. It's from a French reader, who is reading a book by Alan Moore in which "one of the characters has gone to Doctor Dee and promised him one hundred pounds if he 'should teach him how to fix and tine the moon'".
