Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship associated with a
major cross-disciplinary research programme, supported by EPSRC and jointly
directed by Dr. Ben Davis, Professor John Simons, Dr. Lavina Snoek and Professor
David Clary. The group is
pursuing an exciting and innovative coordinated research programme linking
glycobiology and molecular recognition, to synthesis, chemical biology and
chemical physics. Molecular
synthesis is being used to create key 'structural units’ associated with a range
of target oligosaccharides, peptides and glyco-conjugates. Infrared laser
spectroscopy probes their molecular 'vibrational signatures' over a broad
spectral range, under both 'free' and 'complexed' conditions. Computational and
theoretical chemistry translates these into their molecular and conformational
structures and provides their relative energies and free
energies.
The
spectroscopic and computational component of the programme seeks post-doctoral
applicants who must have experience in laser spectroscopy and computational
chemistry, to work in the group led by Professor J. P. Simons and Dr. Lavina
Snoek. The appointment, which will be made at a salary in the range £25889 -
£26,666, depending on age and experience, can begin any time after August
1st. Applications (including
a full CV and the names of two referees) should be sent to Jane Blakeman at [log in to unmask] , from
whom further details of the post may be obtained. The closing date for
applications is 29th June 2007.
