Thanks to all of you who replied to my query about abridged audio books. Here is a summary of replies:

Most repondents said that abridged books are not very popular and some are no longer buying them, however some have a market amongst commuters and ironers, and one authority has done a survey which tells them that one third of their users find abridged editions acceptable.
Most collections are on cassette, and are shelved either with the unabridged or alongside them but separate.
There is a range of charges, but all are free to VIPs.
All use the usual range of suppliers - BBC, Ulverscroft, WF Howes - for unabridged, and many rely on donations for abridged, or don't buy them at all.

Please contact me if you need any more information.
Regards,

Janet
