Dear Colleagues, Apologies for cross posting. The 2008 Health Libraries Group Conference is to take place from 21st July to 22nd July 2008 at the magnificent Cardiff City Hall. The Conference venue itself is stunning and is conveniently located in the centre of Cardiff alongside the Welsh capital’s historic sites, a network of shopping areas, parks and social and cultural venues. Transport links are excellent and once in the city centre its compact layout means that most trips can be undertaken on foot. The range of accommodation is what you would expect from a university and capital city – student accommodation to luxury hotels. The social highlight of the Conference will be a dinner in the Millennium Stadium, the home of Welsh rugby and the largest covered stadium in Europe. For general information on Cardiff take a look at <http://www.visitcardiff.com/>http://www.visitcardiff.com/ . Details of how to register for the Conference and accommodation will follow shortly. We are now making a call for abstracts. Authors are invited to submit abstracts by Friday 16th November 2007. Conference Title: Impact and Influence: Evolving to Succeed Change in terms of technology, roles and institutional structures, etc. has never been more rapid, across all the sectors of the health information profession. More than ever we need to think strategically, demonstrate impact on health care, education and research and influence key decision makers. The central theme of the 2008 HLG Conference is making change work for us. We are looking for abstracts across THREE interlinking themes: * Advancing Practice Through Research * Reshaping Services * Strategic Perspectives You can find more information below on the themes, with examples. However, these are just examples, so please do not hesitate to contribute with other subjects. We are looking for FOUR types of contribution (and please feel free to enter for more than one). * Oral Presentations – 20 to 30 minutes including 5 minutes for questions. * Project Showcases – 10 minutes including questions. Short sessions where you can introduce or update your colleagues on your project / research. * Posters – poster size to be announced. * Interactive Workshops – 90 minutes to impart your specialist knowledge by leading groups through discussions and activities. (Delegates will be pre-booking onto workshops.) Thinking about speaking at a conference for the fist time? Then our Project Showcase sessions could be just right for you. Presenting at a conference can be daunting, but at HLG we provide a very supportive environment, good networking opportunities and a chance to relax at social events. The closing date for abstract submissions is Friday 16th November 2007. The meeting to review submissions will take place on 22nd November and our target for informing potential presenters is 31st December 2007.
