COMMUNITY PROFILING

Community profiling will enable you to better serve your customers by increasing your knowledge of the community, discovering trends and identifying their needs. 

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
This one-day course is ideal for managers in public libraries who need to carry out a community profile. Academic librarians who need to attract new audiences will also find the course useful. 

BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE: 
· Examined the rationale and issues associated with community profiling 
· Used statistical sources to gather local area information
· Considered the implications for data collection in their library 
· Looked at the benefits and pitfalls of using different community profiling techniques 
· Examined different profiling techniques and designed either a questionnaire or a structured interview

Anybody who wants to better understand the wider community in which they operate or who has been asked to carry out a community profile for their library. 

COURSE LEADER 
Kathy Roddy is a qualified librarian with substantial experience in public, academic and specialist libraries. She has also had senior management experience in the voluntary sector. She is now an independent consultant, researcher and trainer in the LIS field. She has recently written in Update on the issues associated with community profiling.
