Getting to grips with the Google Generation: an ALISS hands on training event

Do you feel you want to know more about how the Google generation learn? Would you like to increase your awareness of web 2.0 technology and how you can incorporate it in your daily work and information literacy training programmes? 

On 5th July ALISS (Association of Librarians and Information Professionals in the Social Sciences) will be holding a practical event in Leeds which will include presentations, tips and practical hands on training sessions from experts in this field. The event follows on from the successful summer 2006 ALISS conference Meeting the Challenge of the Google Generation - Technology or Training? (presentations available from the ALISS website http://www.alissnet.org.uk  past events section.) offering an opportunity to explore the technologies discussed further in hands–on training.


Presenters will include.

Angela Newton Information Literacy Team Leader, Leeds University Library
 Little e-learners: creating effective e-learning.
	
This practical session will enable you to understand more about childhood e-learning the way in which it is creating new learning expectations and  reflect on how good e-learning creators can proactively respond to this.

Matt Lingard and Jane Secker, LSE, Centre for Learning technology

The presenters will provide an expert guide to the technology and practical     applications of a range of web 2.0 technology including RSS feeds, blogs, wikis and social bookmarking software. Participants will be able to experiment in using these during a hands on session. 

Anne Costigan Senior Subject Specialist Librarian at the University of Bradford: Google: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

This session will involve a presentation on why has Google become so dominant, where  it fails and how the Google paradigm' affects our users' thinking. This will be followed by a hands on session with plenty of practical ideas to take away.


Cost: £60 ALISS Members, Non-Members £80. This will include a buffet lunch, tea/coffee.
