The below Atypon news may be of interest to Lis-e-Journal readers

HACKENSACK, New Jersey and SANTA CLARA, California-May 03, 2007- Salem
Press, Inc., the award-winning publisher of literary, historical and
scientific reference materials, has entered into an agreement with Atypon
Systems, Inc., a leading e-publishing solutions provider, to develop an
online publication and hosting platform for reference works.

The new Salem Press reference work site will initially go live for Magill's
Medical Guide (MMG), with the flexibility for Salem to take other reference
works online as required. Salem Press will benefit from the rich feature set
and proven capabilities of Atypon Premium in being able to deliver online
content. In addition, Salem will work collaboratively with Atypon, as a
strategic technology partner, to develop further enhancements and services
relevant specifically to the delivery of their reference works.

Chris Beckett, VP of Sales and Marketing of Atypon Systems, commented:
"It is clear that publishers with multiple print products such as reference
works, books and journals are keen to respond in the digital space to their
user's requirements for a service that can deliver relevant content
irrespective of the original publishing format. Atypon Premium was designed
from the outset to be format neutral and to accommodate all forms of
scholarly content. While many of our largest and longest standing sites have
been focussed on the delivery of journal content we are delighted to be
working with Salem Press on the delivery of a key reference work of this
quality and importance. An integrated e-book offering is due later this
year, for a shortly-to-be-announced client. These two developments taken
together will establish Atypon as one of the first service providers to
provide a completely integrated offering to publishers seeking to move all
their print assets online in an integrated and user friendly way."

Peter Tobey, VP of Sales and Marketing at Salem Press, noted that the
flexibility of the Atypon system suited the needs of Salem's several
audiences. "Salem's reference is used by high schools, public libraries and
colleges. The varying needs of these users requires a platform that is
appropriate to their different levels of sophistication."

Tobey also added that Salem's approach to its first independent online
effort is to combine print and electronic resources. "Magill's Medical Guide
will be available as a bundled product, the print version entitling
institutions to a full three year subscription to the online database and
its regular updates. We think making this substantial resource available in
both media for the cost of a print-only product will make it possible for
many schools and libraries to introduce students to online reference."
