EURopean Intensive Seminars of PETrology

First Seminar
"State-of-the-art analytical and imaging techniques in petrology"

Deadline for application: July 15, 2007

We invite applications from PhD students (Master students and 
post-docs will be considered if places are not filled by PhD) to the 
First EURISPET Seminar on "State-of-the-art analytical and imaging 
techniques in petrology". EURISPET is Marie Curie "Series of Events" 
funded by the European Commission through the Sixth Framework 
Programme.

Period: October 20 (arrival) - October 28, 2007 (departure).
Venue: FIAP Jean Monnet, Paris (France) (http://www.fiap.asso.fr/).
Participants: The School is limited to 35 participants supported by 
the EC (30 Early Stage Researchers and 5 Experienced Researchers), 
with the possibility of other 5 participants attending on a 
self-funded basis. The participants may come from any country 
worldwide, but a few conditions exist to be eligible (see 
"eligibility" on http://www.eurispet.eu). In addition, selection of 
participants will consider criteria of gender balance, regional 
balance, quality of past research, student status (with preference 
for PhD, post-doc), knowledge of English.

Program: The School will consist of 8 days of lectures and integrated 
practical sessions (Sat 20 - Sat 27); a poster session is planned to 
enable the participants to present and discuss their own research. 
The School includes visits to TEM, SEM, Raman and microprobes 
laboratories, to the nanoSIMS of the Muséum National d'Histoire 
Naturelle of Paris,  the SOLEIL synchrotron and the CAMECA company.

Topics covered in the Seminar will include: SEM, Electron 
Back-Scattered Diffraction, TEM, Raman spectroscopy, electron and 
proton microprobes, synchrotron (SXRF, XAS, STXM), ion microprobes 
(SIMS and nanoSIMS), laser ablation ICP-MS and micro-imaging.

Fees: Accepted eligible participants will be fully funded by EC 
(registration fee, travel, accommodation and meals, up to the limits 
defined by EC) through the Marie Curie scheme. However, a deposit of 
300 Euro will be asked to each accepted participant and refunded upon 
arrival to the Seminar. People (maximum 5) attending on a self-funded 
basis should pay 300 Euro (registration) plus 850 Euro (accommodation 
and  meals).
