Researcher - Ties and Lies HLF Slavery 2007 Project

Kent County Council

Archives and Local History Service

KS7 Full time (£19,572)

Until 30 June 2008

Are you interested in the history of Kent?  Do you have research skills and a background in education?  If so this may be the role for you.

We are looking for an experienced Researcher to carry out research on the documentary evidence of Kent’s connections with the historic slave trade and the abolition movement within the Kent Archive Service’s collections at Canterbury, Maidstone and Whitfield and to interpret and present this material as a resource for use in schools.

Knowledge of the national curriculum and the creation of education resource materials is essential as you will create educational resource packs from the findings and working in partnership with arts practitioners help devise residencies and performance workshops based on the findings. You will also produce an annotated guide to the research findings and promote the project through talks and the creation of promotional materials.

To achieve this we are looking for a team player with strong communication and administrative skills, who is able to prioritise and meet deadlines.

This post is part of the Kent Archives Service’s ‘Ties and Lives Project’ which funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
