Repositories Summer School 2007

Dartington College, Totnes, Devon

Wednesday June 27th – Friday June 29th

http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/events/rsp-2007/

About the event

The JISC Repositories Support Project (RSP) is delighted to announce the launch of the UK’s first summer school for prospective and new managers of institutional and subject repositories.

This unique three day residential course will deliver a comprehensive  overview of the practical challenges and solutions to effective repository implementation. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in scholarly debates on current repository theory and gain hands-on experience with repository software and tools. A range of interactive seminars, practical workshops, lectures and panel sessions will be delivered by a range of expert practitioners drawing from projects such as DAEDALUS, TARDIS, SHERPA, Repository Bridge and the RSP. These focused sessions will be supplemented by a series of networking sessions and social engagements, all of the delightful surroundings of Dartington Hall.

This is an excellent and unique opportunity to join a developing community of repository managers from its very inception. Attendees at this summer school will become part of a supported community for the next year, with the summer school as the first in a planned series of activities to facilitate growth, communication and collaboration of the community and its members. The RSP will work with colleagues who have already established their repository through other events and supporting activities.

Audience

The RSP summer school 2007 is firmly aimed at those who are just starting with repository development, rather than those institutions wishing to develop or enhance established repositories. We encourage all institutions currently at the early stages of repository implementation – including those just in the planning stage – to apply for a place on the course.

New staff working on existing repositories are also welcome to apply as they will find the course a valuable introduction to the field. Priority will however be given to those applicants representing repositories in the early stages of development.

Application

Due to high demand for places, places are initially limited to one delegate per repository/institution, but we are quite happy to compile a reserve list for a second person should spaces become unexpectedly available. Those interested should apply for a place using the online application form at http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/events/rsp-2007/ . Please apply by Friday 8th June. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application no later than Monday May 28th.

Cost

This event is heavily subsidised by the JISC RSP. Places cost just £99 per person, including two nights B&B, an evening meal/reception on Wednesday and Thursday evening, and lunch on Thursday and Friday.

About Dartington College

The RSP summer School 2007 is being held in the idyllic surroundings of Dartington Hall in the heart of the Dartington estate near Totnes. Accommodation is on-site which means that we all have access to the grounds -- and the college bar “the White Hart Bar" (built into the old mediaeval kitchens) -- for relaxation in the evenings.  More information on the venue can be found at this link: http://www.dartingtonhall.com
