Chris there was an anthology of British Asian poets in 2001 with seventy or so poets included. I am sure that if you were to rebrand the list as British-Asian-Irish poets it might in those moments of googling bring more into the constituency of the list. I am not so sure whether we should come down so heavily on nerd poetry or avant avant, why not embrace it?, it represents only one facet of what is a multi-faceted approach to writing poetry, from Hallmark greeting jingles to poetry installations. But when we discuss poetics, well then that is a different cup of tea. I for one am concerned as I said before that poetry is being marginalised in publication terms because it is still elitist and smacks of academic freemasonry at times. Slam has helped to open it up to more people as it has coevolved with the very popular hip-hop culture.
