PhD and Post-doc in Control of Human Movement and Plasticity at K.U.Leuven

Control of movement in adolescents and elderly: Investigation of motor behaviour and learning-related dynamics.

The Motor Control Lab at K. U. Leuven, Belgium (Faculty of Kinesiology  & Revalidation Sciences) has a vacancy for a pre- and/or post-doc position to conduct research on motor control and learning in different age groups. The motor control laboratory consists of a multidisciplinary team involved in the behavioral and neural study of movement control and neuroplasticity at the systems level. The team consists of scientists with a variety of backgrounds including biology, medical engineering, psychology, kinesiology, physiotherapy etc.

Focus of the vacancy
The project will focus on the control and learning of movement in young and elderly subjects. A multidisciplinary research strategy is implemented, consisting of the use of kinematic and neurophysiological research techniques to study the neural basis of behavior. Functional magnetic resonance imaging is used to study the neural correlates of motor functions with special emphasis on the principles governing interlimb coordination (bimanual and upper-lower limb coordination). Access to several MRI scanners (1.5, 3 T) is available via collaboration with the Department of Radiology (Prof. Sunaert, UZ Gasthuisberg, University Hospital). The project will be conducted under the supervision of Prof. S. Swinnen & Prof. N. Wenderoth.

Qualifications and Attributes
Candidates with a degree in cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology, kinesiology, physical therapy, biomedical sciences etc.. are considered. A good command of English is required.
