Duh - "I prefer to retain control of my data" .... "struggling to publish to the net"

If all you want is to have a local copy of your data, which is the master, and you have a PDA, then have a look at GooSync http://www.goosync.com, which is the proverbial white bread beater! You can keep the master calendar on your PDA, or of course anything that synchronises with it, then use GooSync to keep Google up to date.

Works like a dream - both ways! And this is the first sync software (other than MS ActiveSync which has control of the file format both ends) that I could say that of.

If I may use the O word I now have Outlook <=> PDA <=> Google calendar, and I haven't faulted it yet.

Thanks for the replies, they highlight one trait of mine, that I prefer
to retain control of my data...  I hadn't really thought about it but I
still prefer to "own" the programs that contain my data. (be it
commercial programs or libre)  So whilst google would work, I feel
uneasy. (irrational I am sure!)

John's "Aladesc" would possibly suffice, but not OSX, and a rather dated
interface!!!

Trying Sunbird again, and and it certainly looks better now than
whenever I last looked (about a yr ago?)  Currently struggling to
publish to the net which would be a clear major selling point...
