I think it's a great idea! However, VMPlayer requires the entire
operating system which is at least 1Gb if the GUI is included. Can your
servers handle such a large file? Accessing the image data from within
VMPlayer might be a challenge as well. I believe USB mass storage
devices are accessible in VMPlayer, but what if the data is on the "C:"
drive. Dragging and dropping means you have two copies of your data.
My 2 cents.
I don't use VMPlayer but use Parallels. I believe the technique is to actually get Linux to read one's Windows or other directory as if it is a network drive.
