That plan sounds great, even though I have my analysis machines running under linux anyway... Thinking about it, what about a bootable live-DVD image ala Knoppix with a working FSL installed, that can do double duty, being run under VMPlayer, if windows is still required, or booted properly to allow Linux bare-metal access to the hardware (to, say, also allow the OpenGL requiring Freesurfer to share the medium ;)).
