Subject: Re: exam requirements for
students with Dyslexia doing BSL level 1
Hi Wendy,
Do you mean the CACDP qualification? If so, they might advise you. Certainly their website (www.cacdp.org.uk) will give a detailed breakdown of assessment criteria and procedure which will give an indication of areas which might create difficulty for the dyslexic candidate - obviously depending on their particular strategies and difficulties. CACDP should be responsive to requests for justified variation.
Similarly, if the exam is set by a different awarding body, you would need to look at the particular candidate in relation to assessment criteria & tasks to be performed within the assessment.
There may be no specific requirements needed. Certainly there is very little spelling and reading normally for this level - it is assessing BSL, and most awarding bodies are trying to be accessible to Deaf people where good English skills cannot be assumed.
I think it is the usual advice for ANY exam - What are candidates actually required to do? Will this present any difficulty for this particular candidate? What might remove these barrier (if there are any)?
