Is this a debate or a convenient opportunity for academics to pitch their insipid courses (Dundee excepted) No, I believe it is a convenient opportunity for as many Archivists as possible to be rude on jiscmail. First we have the "stop bleating and get on with it" comment and now this about archive courses being "insipid" - all from a debate where someone is simply interested in joining our profession and wants a bit of advice. I'd be surprised if the originator of this debate hasn't been put off becoming an archivist by this point - hopefully, the advice that others have taken the time to write up and post has swayed her in the right direction and she hasn't changed her mind. There may be valid viewpoints lurking behind these comments, but can't people phrase them in a civilized manner? And can we *please* have some better moderation on the ARCHIVES-NRA list?
