Macaulay Institute is currently advertising four posts in the in the area of climate change and land use. If you know of anyone who might be interested in any of these, please let them know. Further details at http://www.macaulay.ac.uk/jobs/

SPATIAL MODELLER
To integrate social, economic and biophysical information on household behaviour, land use and transport to help analyse trajectories of rural communities towards low carbon economies. Applicants should have knowledge of Geographical Information Systems and experience in integrated analysis of biophysical and socio-economic data. An interest in climate change issues would be highly desirable. Experience in emerging simulation modelling approaches (e.g. agent-based, Bayesian) and implementing biophysical models in a spatially explicit framework would also be advantageous.
Starting salary within the range £24,200 - £41,800 per annum with excellent employee benefits. Closing date 5th April 2007.

ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMIST
To explore the accuracy of widely used carbon accounting procedures, and the factors contributing to the variance around mean values of GHG impacts of the activities of different sectors. Applicants should have an awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of alternative policy instruments to address GHG reduction. An ability to critically interrogate data sources on GHG use and impacts, appraise GHG reduction strategies and apply economic evaluation techniques at regional levels is important.
Starting salary within the range £24,200 - £41,800 per annum with excellent employee benefits. Closing date 5th April 2007.

ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGIST/SOCIOLOGIST
To examine the links between attitudes, values, behaviour and other factors that might influence actors’ responses to climate change, and factors that could influence the uptake of GHG-reducing actions. Applicants should have experience of how people perceive their interactions with the environment and response to climate change issues. In addressing these questions, the post-holder is invited to consider both well established and recently emerging psychological and/or sociological research methods.
Starting salary within the range £24,200 - £41,800 per annum with excellent employee benefits. Closing date 5th April 2007.

GLOBAL LAND PROJECT NODAL OFFICE ON INTEGRATION AND SYNTHESIS EXECUTIVE OFFICER
The Global Land Project (GLP) is an international joint project between the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and the International Human Dimensions Programme (IHDP), aimed at understanding changes in the interaction between people and their environments. The GLP is coordinated through the International Project Office in Copenhagen, and delivered via a network of Nodal Offices and GLP-endorsed projects. A GLP Nodal Office on Integration and Synthesis is being established jointly between the Macaulay Land Use Research Institute and the University of Aberdeen. The activities of the Nodal Office are to: run international workshops and conferences; publish relevant scientific and policy-related material; facilitate collaborative and integrative activities; and develop funding proposals to support the GLP scientific agenda focussed on integration and synthesis in land-use systems.
We are seeking to recruit an Executive Officer for the Office to play a key part in the delivery of these objectives. Applicants should have a doctorate in a relevant subject, an appreciation of land-use systems as socio-ecological systems, and a specific interest in some aspect of modelling their dynamics which can be developed within their personal research programme. The successful applicant will have a good scientific publications record, experience of publishing in the popular media, and excellent interpersonal, facilitation, presentational and organisational skills. The post would particularly suit a postdoctoral researcher wishing to develop his or her career in an international context.
Starting salary within the range £24,200 - £27,200 per annum with excellent employee benefits. Closing date 6th April 2007.
