Colleagues,

I would like to bring the following international conference to your
attention. Please circulate to other interested colleagues. Places are
limited so early booking is advisable.

Higher Education in the 21st Century - Diversity of Missions
Dublin, Ireland
June 25 - 27 2007

Higher Education in the 21st Century - Diversity of Mission will discuss
how to better value and support greater diversity and differentiation
between higher education institutions (HEIs), culminating in a special
report.

Keynote speakers and participants at this international conference will
be leaders and senior decision-makers from higher education and
inter-governmental organizations worldwide.

Sessions will address the following themes:

* How is institutional diversity valued (or not) by
Governments, funding agencies and society more generally?

* What impact are league tables and rankings having on
institutional diversity?

* What are the appropriate incentives to enable
institutions to relate research to mission?

* How can we better measure and evaluate the contribution
that HEIs make to national, regional and local economic and social
development?

* How are institutions facing up to the challenges of
widening participation and cultural diversity?

The conference will have particular significance for newer HEIs as well
as for policy makers and funding agencies.

There will be an informal format, with an emphasis on dialogue and
sharing 'good practice' through case studies and reflective practice in
a relaxing environment.

Hosted by the Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland (DIT), the
conference is sponsored by HEA, IMHE, IAU, and IUA.
