Dear all,

Back in January, Phil Gregg kindly pointed us to an IT vendor providing a
30-day trial of Sharepoint. I took up the trial and was impressed with the
product. In fact, I’m now subscribing as it provides me with a highly
functional content management system that I can access from any of my
clients’ sites, also allowing my clients to collaborate on documents in a
secure environment.

However, the provider (Apptix) only provides Windows Sharepoint v2.0 and
v3.0; this does not provide the advanced records management functionality
that has been causing so much interest over the last six months. Does
anybody know of an equivalent vendor providing access to Microsoft Office
Sharepoint Server (MOSS). I have located a couple of companies providing a
dedicated server for clients but this service runs into $300+ per month
costs, compared to a shared hosting service of around $30 per month.

Thanks.

Regards,

Eldin.

Subject: Re: MS SharePoint 2007 - EDRMS Solution?

I have not been party to previous discussions about Sharepoint (being a new

list member) but if it helps you can test drive Sharepoint on-line over the

web by signing up to a 30 day trial. There are several companies that do

this. The one I arbitrarily chose, just to have a play with Sharepoint, was

HYPERLINK "http://www.sharepointsite.com/"http://www.sharepointsite.com/ (I
have no connection with them or

Microsoft!). These companies are trying to get you to sign up to an 'on

demand' service, hosted by them over the Internet but obviously you have to

weigh up the pros and cons of on-demand versus in-house hosting.

My initial impression of Sharepoint is that it is a very impressive and

powerful product that could potentially address requirements for Intranet,

EDRMS and to a certain extent workflow. I have not carried out a formal

evaluation though. Of course in theory it is lower risk to go with a

product from a big name such as Microsoft in terms of reliability, support,

future enhancements, longevity of vendor, etc. but at a price I suspect!

I have also made contact with Adepteq HYPERLINK
"http://www.adepteq.com/consulting"http://www.adepteq.com/consulting who

are Sharepoint experts. You may be interested in talking to them? (again, I

have no connection other than I identified them as a potential future

supplier if we go this route)

Apologies if the above duplicates anything said before or if I am 'teaching

granny to suck eggs' as the phrase goes! I hope some of it is useful.

Regards
