Media Officer (Initial six months maternity cover, possibility of extension)

BBSRC, Swindon £24,700 - £27,700 + excellent benefits package Swindon

BBSRC is the UK's principal public funder for research across the biological sciences and needs a first-rate Media Officer to cover an initial six months maternity absence in its busy and proactive Media Office.

In this varied role, you'll have the opportunity to get involved with publicising cutting edge science. You don't necessarily need a science background, but you will be expected to promote exciting advances in areas such as genomics and brain science.

Preparing first drafts of press releases and taking responsibility for our cuttings and information database, you'll also find yourself liaising with the national media on a weekly basis, so you'll have ample opportunity to grow your existing one or more years' media relations experience.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will contribute to BBSRC's media and communications training programmes. You'll need to be able to cover the press office in the absence of the Head of Media and experience of dealing with
complex material would be an advantage.

As well as a competitive salary, you'll also benefit from a final salary pension scheme, a generous annual leave allowance, flexible working hours and excellent on-site facilities including a subsidised coffee shop and restaurant.

For an application form and further details, please contact: Cecilia Perkins, Joint Recruitment Unit on 01793 444468 (24 hours), fax 01793 301102 or e-mail: [log in to unmask] quoting the reference number JRU 46/07.
Alternatively all our documents are available on our website http://jru.rcuk.ac.uk

Closing date for applications: Tuesday 10 April 2007.

The BBSRC welcomes applications from all sections of the community irrespective of race, ethnic origin, religion, sexual
orientation, disability, age or gender.
