medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Does anyone know how St Nicholas of Flue (Mar 21) became the patron of Switzerland? Are there any good modern biographies of Nicholas? How is he remember by modern Swiss? Do CH Protestants also consider N a saint and nation patron? Do modern Swiss commemorate the feast? Do Swiss view N as a prophet and a symbol of national values, such as pacifism? Is he considered more national than religous? Does CH have other patron saints?
