medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

According to the History of the University of Oxford, vol 1, ed J I Catto, OUP, 1984, p 515
following the Council of Vienne decree a project for teaching Greek, Hebrew, Syriac and Arabis was serioulsy pursued at Oxford for a number of years following 1320, though there is no evidence, appareltly, that any of the languages was actually taught. Apparently Canterbury Convocation in 1320 levied a subsidy on the clergy of 1/4d in the pound to pay the salry of a convert Jew to lecture at Oxford on Hebrew & Greek (Op cit p123 and fn8).
