Dear All

It would be great to get some mathematicians up into the Famelab. Apologies for the short notice - especially for the London heat.

Best wishes

Caroline

Dear Caroline,

This is a fantastic national science competition promoting science communication but there is very little time left before it starts - the first heat is in London on 6th March! It would be great if you could think of a way of your society being made aware of this so they can come along and enter.

Thank you for your help,

Susannah Sheppard

Do you know someone who just can't stop talking about science or technology…? Why not encourage them to enter NESTA FameLab?

Please help us spread the word about NESTA FameLab by forwarding this email to anyone you think may be interested.

Do you want to share your passion?

NESTA FameLab is an exciting national competition to find the new voices of UK science and engineering. We are looking for talented people who have the ability to share both their enthusiasm and knowledge with the public.

The 2007 winner will win £2000, a two-week internship with Channel 4 and a host of speaking engagements.

There are seven regional heats around the country:

6   March         London             Dana Centre

10 March         Cardiff              National Museum Cardiff

11 March         Plymouth          National Marine Aquarium

17 March         York                 National Railway Museum

24 March         Glasgow           Glasgow Science Centre

31 March         Oxford              Science Oxford

15 April            Belfast              Black Box

Wow our expert judges…

Entrants have just three minutes to wow the judges with a presentation on a scientific subject of their choice. Anyone taking part can also join in a free one hour mini-masterclass, getting some top-tips and advice from an experienced media trainer.

One finalist and one reserve will be chosen from each of the regional heats to take part in a residential weekend masterclass in science communication. The winner will be decided at the live final at Cheltenham Science Festival on 9 June.

2006 winner Jonathan Wood said, "I would encourage everyone with an interest to enter - the benefits are enormous. I've gained a real confidence and drive to go out and find the opportunities to speak, perform, and have fun with the science that interests me. It is a brilliant experience, and it's not only about the opportunity of fame and fortune. FameLab forces you to think more carefully about how science works and what catches the imagination."

So if you want to share your passion with the world, come along to one of the regional heats this year.
