I am grateful to Claire for raising her concerns about the salary
advertised for this post as this is an issue I have raised in the past
too.

I noted that the wage is for a 30 hour a week job which pro rata for a
37 hour week would work out as 11,407 on the start of the scale. And
with overtime and the hours (9-3), the likelihood of a gaining another
job to suppliment the salary is slim unless the person worked
weekends.

Clearly this is pitifully low even then. Entry I according to the
MA's salary guidlines recommends 15-18,000.

GEM should not advertise this job on a matter of principal. It would
be a backward step for those campaigning for the museums profession to
be just that, a profession, rather than a semi-voluntary activity.

Best wishes,
Tehmina.

Surely jobs should only be advertised that fit into the Museums Association's pay scales, as even if this job is up for review, it is unlikely to make any significant difference. Should GEM be doing more to push the Museums Association's pay scales or is should payscales be purely up to the governing bodies of each organisation?
